review 1: The Cost of Victory is an action-pack story. At the beginning of this story, The Alliance is defending their position out in space against the Imperial military. As the story continue, the readers will realize that the war is among the nations on Earth. It is not an alien forces that Earth is against. The only difference is that the treaty between Nations demands that the war is taken out to space instead of on Earth. It is kind of silly but then again, I haven't read the first book. It is nation vs nation to claim this particular universe. The "Why"is unknown until the end of the story. The story starts off with the confrontation of Alliance led by Admiral Augustus Garret against the enemy in the Gliese 250 System. The enemy isn't identify (unless the readers have... more read The Marines, Book 1 of the Crimson Worlds II). It took me to the first fourth of the book before I knew the Alliance was against the East. There is a Spy vs Spy storyline involved. A secretive intelligence agencies (similar to the CIA, PRC, and KGB) are seeking for power for their own self-gain. The secret intelligence agencies have dominance in this futuristic authoritarian world. The military are their pawn in this secretive war. The Alliance Secret Service fearing Admiral Garret's popularity and heroism, manipulated the CAC (Asian) military to assassinate Admiral Garrett. They would have done the same to General Holmes whom they also fear as General Holmes' distinguish services and heroism is also rising. The Cost of Victory works because there are so much actions and strategies in this book. The readers will love the military heroes in this book. When Admiral Augustus Garrett was assassinated, I was quite upset that he was killed off. He is a character that breathes admiration through his actions. Even though it is war, he tried to minimize casualties. I recommends readers to follow this series. There are enough characters to love and villains to despise.
review 2: This is the second enrty in this series and enjoyed it. This book still feels a little rushed like the first one but not as bad thats my only real complaint. On the plus side naval space battles are added to the mix and he does a great job describing the battles, he also describes in detail the tactics in the battles Im guessing the author was once in the military since he is describing actual tactics used by our military. All in all another good read less

Excelente Pew Pew Pew con un toque de Foundation y la filosofía militarista de Heinlein.
