review 1: This is a good example of whether this is a good book or a bad book depends upon what you enjoy reading. There are many ratings from 1 starts to 5 stars but all seem to agree that the book is reasonably well written and edited.if you enjoy a sci-fi military story that focuses on one battle to the next battle and the systems and weapons used, with virtually no character development, apart from the principal character, and no pots or subplots, this book is for you. As noted elsewhere, it starts with a junior Marine launching on his first assault to a planet and what he went through during that invasion . The second chapter offer to little help as we saw in a flashback where the young Marine came from and the struggles he went through to become a marine. Chapter 3 and thereaf... moreter it was one invasion to another. There were no relationships, Love interests or come Ridaree a parent. At least that was the case until I have been in the book at about 50%. Again, not a bad read if all you want is to read about war.
review 2: Not bad. Pretty much no dialog and you only get to know the main character. A very simple and simplistic storyline.It was an OK story but about halfway through it was getting boring, almost repetitive.The main character seemed to have no flaws. He seemed too perfect. Nothing seemed to really go wrong. I mean, he gets crushed and a nuclear bomb detonates near him and he still survives, while others died due to lucky shots.Not sure I will read the next book in the series. less
