review 1: I wanted to hate him, I wanted to love him. as much as I adored Tim in SLS I couldn't work out where I sat on him. Winter gives you a whole other side of the gay experience.from being unable to accept yourself (in contrast to Ben in SLS who always had himself together) to first loves, bad loves and platonic loves. Tims journey will feel both familier and strange to any gay man out there and for those who aren't give them an insight to the world of being gay.a great cast of characters. Jay Bell did a particularly superb job with Eric and Tims relationship and you can help but feel for Tim.if you enjoyed something like summer read this. even if you think your mind is made up on Tim.
review 2: Jay Bell gives us what I so often wish for but rarely receive -- the ot
... moreher side of the story. As he tells us in the beginning, every story has two sides. In Something Like Summer we meet and see the young love develop between Tim and Ben. Unfortunately, because Tim is so deeply in the closet, he gets scared and runs as far from Ben, and himself, as possible, sacrificing his one true love in the process. In Something Like Winter we get to see what is going on in Tim's life during the same events. We get to see his thoughts, his grief, his fears, his anguish. We get to learn about how his life falls apart and how he struggles to put himself back together. For one who has so much, Tim is alone, lonely, and empty as he tries desperately to get Ben back into his life.Well done. Bell writes very well and weaves a good tale. I can't wait to read more of what he has written. less
