The Gallaghers of Morning Star
review 1: Texas Secrets is by Jean Brashears. It is part of the Gallaghers of Morning Star series. It is a quick and easy read but the plot and characters are still well developed. Maddie Rose Collins has driven to Texas to claim a house that has been left to her by a stranger. It comes at a good time. Her business partner and lover had been caught in bed with another woman, one he thought was more suitable to marry. Coming to Texas to see this property will give her time to see what she wants to do next. Which restaurant does she want to go work for as a chef. Sam Gallagher had given her the ranch house. She has to stay there for a month and then she can sell it to Boone or Mitch Gallagher. If they try to buy it earlier or can’t buy her out, the property goes to the Cas... morewells. Bruce Caswell had abused his grandmother and he was the step-father of the man who killed his father so Boone doesn’t want the Caswells to have the property. Boone has come home to Texas to the ranch his father owned. Sam had bequeathed the ranch to Boone and his brother Mitch. Boone has no idea where Mitch is. He didn’t know until Maddie showed up that he didn’t have the house that he knew of as home. He is against Maddie having the house because her father, Dalton Wheeler who she knew as Edward Collins. Dalton had supposedly killed his step-father. Sam Gallagher had bought the ranch from Dalton’s mother. However, Sam felt he owed Dalton a debt and since Dalton was dead, he would pay that debt to his daughter. Boone and Maddie have to come to some sort of compromise in order for them to inherit the house and property. Devlin Marlowe is the private investigator who found Maddie for Sam and Boone hires him to find Mitch. Boone has had a rough life until now as has Maddie. Which one is stronger and which one can outlast the other? What in the world has Sam really done?
review 2: A very enjoyable book that had me enjoying the story and the characters. The author created some excellent tension between the characters, but sometimes it got a bit frustrating since they spent too much time thinking the worst of the other without taking a chance and just speaking their mind. I was ready to pull my hair near the end when Boone finally let his heart speak. Drove me nuts...but kept the pages turning. less
