review 1: A SUN FOR THE DYING. (1999). Jean-Claude Izzo. ****. This is another excellent novel from Izzo, though this one is not a crime novel like those that make up his famous “Marseilles Trilogy.” This novel tells the story of Rico, a man who was like many other men, but who fell on hard times. He became a man of the streets; a homeless man. We learn the story of Rico’s life and loves, and watch him slowly go downhill, although he maintains throughout his self respect and love for other human beings. The story is told by Abdou, an Algerian boy who is also on the streets. He meets Rico in Marseilles after a long trek by Rico from Paris. He was looking for one of his lost loves, but ultimately was looking for a warmer place to die. I found this to be an extremely mo... moreving story that didn’t once stray into any maudlin traps. Recommended.

E'la storia di coloro che vivono ai margini della società, di coloro che hanno perso tutto, la famiglia, il lavoro e vivono per la strada, schivati o ignorati perché guardarli spaventa, così da allontanare da noi l'immagine di ciò che un giorno ci potrebbe accadere se, improvvisamente, qualcosa nella nostra vita si inceppasse, "facesse cilecca, come un appuntamento mancato". Loro vivono sotto un sole diverso, il sole dei morenti, quello che non sorge mai. Hanno sempre freddo. E muoiono di freddo. less
