review 1: With the theme of nurturing nature, this book deserves 5 stars. A short true African story focusing on determination and spreading the love. Jeanette Winter takes us into Africa where deforestation is threatening to tear all of nature away from Africa. Readers will encounter traditional vibrant African attire as well as scenery. It will motivate young readers to care for nature and make a change. The story shows children that all it takes is one person to make a change. It shows how important nature is to Africa and can influence children all over the world to care too. African children may feel comfort with the illustrations and focus on nature, including animals' homes. Children of other cultures will learn about Africa and be able to apply the knowledge learne... mored to their own life anywhere else in the world.
review 2: I'm working on creating a booklist for my local public library. This book was one in consideration for this list. This is not going on my list. Although, it's a wonderful example of doing the right thing. It's also a great example standing up for your beliefs, because responsible for your actions. Let alone the true story that inspired this books is a wonderful example of being a human being. It's just too much off the mark for what I'm looking for. And I gotta say, it makes me sad because it was fantastic. less
