The Steampunk Bible - buy it, read it, give it around you and let's organise a fancy-dress night !
review 2: A very nice and concise "what is Steampunk"? Great for the person who has no idea, but a good reminder of what steampunk is for the old hand. Is it Art, writing, fashion, DIY, or all of the above. From a writer/reader viewpoint there are many subgenres (gaslight
... more romance). But to include the PUNK it must have that rebellion against the inequities of the status quo or establishment.I always take away something of value from reading Jeff VanderMeer's work. This time, I learned how to electrically etch metal tins (fun times ahead) and was introduced to some great music. If you haven't heard of Abney Park, check them out on their website and youtube. Very cool blend of harmonies and a variety of styles. Plus a very SteamPunk theme and style. less

It was pretty useful but I found myself skipping several parts because I wasn't interested in them.

This would be a great introductory book for Steampunk newbies. Very informative and incisive.

An adequate illustration of what a stylish-but-empty movement steampunk is.

More of an enjoyable melange, with many great photos and illustrations.
