review 1: A solid overview of the steampunk culture and the sub-cultures that have evolved from it. The book focused on fashion, music, books and film that all have a steampunk aspect. There are a few stretches in the book (Dresden Dolls described as "Brechtian punk cabaret" seems to place them in a different historical context). But for those interested in what the steampunk culture is about, this would be a good introduction.
review 2: I'll admit it, I was mostly reading this or the pictures, paintings, and costumes. There are a lot in this book, so I certainly enjoyed it. And it was great to see all the glimpses of Steampunk in modern pop culture - the new Sherlock Holmes movies featuring RDJ, Warehouse 13 on SyFy, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, etc. Hopefully thi
