review 1: This is the second in a series that takes place in a small town. The characters, many of whom work in the local public library, are likeable, and humorous, even in the face of a murder.This isn't great literary fiction, nor is it an "edge of your seat, can't put down" mystery. Rather it is an enjoyable book, with enough plot twists to keep it interesting. When I have to stop reading for some reason, I look forward to returning to the book, but I'm not obsessed.I really appreciate the lack of "blood and gore"- the author doesn't need to be gross to make the book enjoyable. Likewise, the romance is not graphic. While it is a mystery, it didn't keep me up at night or give me nightmares.This is a good light-weight mystery- perfect for a vacation read.
review 2: I'm... more not even sure why but I find myself falling a little more in love with this series with each book. I really like the characters. I want to be best friends with Lindsey and I find myself rooting for her. I can't wait to get the next one and see what happens next! Even though these are cozy mysteries and McKinlay does a good job of building the suspense in a believable way yet still keeping Lindsey and her friends involved as only a small town can, I feel like it's the growing and evolving relationships of the town that keep me more involved and make me want more. less
