review 1: I'm really enjoying this series, but for a few little issues. It gets tiresome to have Nikki constantly go on about her fear of abandonment without much resolution. You'd think maybe her parents would've sprung for a shrink when she came to live with them. I also find the character building to be a bit lacking. As a P.I. , I would think Nikki would want to know more about the people she is living with. She's a bit self absorbed, which makes it hard sometimes to root for her. All in all, though, I'm intrigued. Hopefully the next book will flesh out the characters a bit more.
review 2: I would actually give this 3 1/2 stars. It's funny, I used to only know about the basic book genres: mystery, romance, horror, etc. Since I've joined Goodreads, I've learned abou... moret all these sub-genres like steampunk, cozies and urban fantasies. I really like urban fantasy. It's got the supernatural action I like about YA without any of the annoying teen angst. As for this one, I liked it better than the first one. Some good action scenes, a good mystery and some evil villains. I also liked the evolution of the relationship between Nikki and Jamaal. I do find Nikki's habit of closing herself off a little annoying, but I guess I understand why she does it. Looking forward to reading the next one. less
