review 1: When I went to the PNR section of my local library and picked up the first of this series. I must admit, I wasn't expecting it to be very good. I've read a lot within the Urban Fantasy genre and there's a lot of it that is pretty blasé. However I'm happy to say how WRONG I was. This is a fantastic series in which Black's concise writing allowed me to take an adrenaline ride through the twists and turns of the world of the Descendants. There is a bit of romance but what I like is that it doesn't over-take the plot and is approached maturely and IMO an interesting way.The ending is not a tying up and putting away of the plot; instead it leaves you in suspense, waiting for more!xx Love it, will be reading more of Jenna Black.
review 2: Ever since book #1 I was ho... moreoked with the concept of the world. However, Nikki isn't the most thrilling character I've ever read, but the hints of romance kept me avidly reading (I'm a sucker for romance). The book was good, rather predictable, but good all the same: Nikki's redeeming self-awareness outweighs some of her annoying bouts of denial and somewhat annoying lack of strategy in this book.However, it's all starting to get rather long in the tooth. It's book 3, there's been no great progression of anything really. Nikki has no more idea how to use her gifts than she did in the first book (primarily I think because the timeline for all the books is spread over less than 3 months). Her budding (failing) romance with Jamaal is going in maddening circles and lets not forget that the world was completely explored in the first book, so there's been on new tantalising pieces of information for a reader to devour. And I sincerely hope that the ending wasn't hinting at anything to do with the beginning's of a love triangle! less
