review 1: I really enjoyed this book. Definitely not for the faint of heart as it can be quite gruesome and macabre at times, but! It really does serve the story. I like horrors and thrillers but I don't like to be grossed out just for the sake of shock value and I didn't feel like that was happening to me in this book. Make no mistake, the book lives up to its title, and I was uncomfortable reading in some places, but I had to keep reading to know what would happen! I never felt like the descriptions were cheap or shocky just to grab me - they really were a part of the story. Jamie is a likable hero and it's easy to root for her. I'm very interested to see how the events of this book affect her. My understanding is that she and Blake [our psychic!] are back for the next ... morebook!
review 2: Wow, what a great book. The subject matter is a bit confronting, but at the same time you can't stop reading it. I found the pacing was perfect and I never felt bored at any point. I sympathised with the main character; her scenes with her daughter were emotionally fraught and at one stage, brought me to tears. For anyone who likes a good detective story, this one is certainly an interesting twist on a murder mystery. less
