review 1: Excellent read for people who are looking to get fit. I have been reading diet, exercise, and health books for many years, and this is one of the best books I have ever read on these subjects. Jillian Michaels has done a wonderful job of writing in a simplified, organized, up to date, and easy to understand guide to becoming healthier! I listened to the author narrated audio version.
review 2: I love Jillian Michaels. I attended her Maximize Your Life tour a couple of weeks ago, and listening to her really makes me feel like I could make the changes she suggests and live the life I want to live or should live. Sounds silly, I know, but the woman is convincing, and she really seems to know what she's talking about. So after I saw her, I checked out this book
... more from the library, to see if it was something I wanted to buy.I wasn't all that impressed with this book. She doesn't say anything she hasn't said before - and she sort of says that up front. This is supposed to be the streamlined version of what she's been saying for years. Just the basics. I believe if someone were to follow everything she says in this book, they'd be in great shape. But truth is, I'm not going to do most of this. Other than the whole consume less calories, burn more calories, which is info we all already know, I'm not going to make any of these other big lifestyle changes. I'm not saying she isn't right. I'm just admitting that it's more work than I'm going to do.I think I got this book hoping there were some secret tricks, some brand new information that was going to convince me to start living a healthier life. And there isn't. Also, I think this book might be more useful if you have a hard copy of it and can actually write in it, take notes. There are lots of checklists and such. Reading this on my Kindle, I didn't feel the motivation to get out a pencil and paper and make notes. less
