review 1: I have most of the same reactions as the other critical comments. Too many omissions - some annoying (the irritating substance Biruté sits in), others jarring (the death of Diane Fossey) - and uncritical presentation of certain issues, namely how Leakey recruits these women. On the other hand, I greatly enjoyed the art and I did not find the narrative shifts problematic. I agree wholeheartedly that the final comment that "some" of the book is fiction is unacceptable. I don't expect footnotes or endnotes in a comic geared toward younger readers, but I do expect a more forthright accounting of what is and isn't real.

... moresuch a slim volume. As with his Feynman book, there is a scattershot quality to the story-telling, which may be great for a single polymath, but works less well for three women dedicated to three parallel lines of science. A terrific introduction, particularly for younger readers, but not terrific for anyone looking for anything deeper than an overview of three profoundly important women who pioneered in their fields. less
