review 1: Everyone at my book club meeting loved this book, except for me! I found the main character to be rather obtuse and the idea of such a transformation in one year's time to be rather unbelievable. At times there was too much detail for me and I found myself skimming sections, while my book club mates were enchanted by it all! Go figure! One person suggested thinking of it as a fable and that has helped me appreciate the book. I'd recommend it as an interesting read but it was not one of my favorite books of the year.

This is a 3 1/2 star book. It is better than a 3 star rating, but not quite 4.
