review 1: I really did not see the ending to this book coming at all. The set up was was pretty good with Akhenaten but man once the story hit about mid way and Thanos is revealed to be the real danger the book becomes something entirely different. It goes from heroes facing off against a immortal seeming villain to an existential battle between Thanos and the universe. The end to this story is pretty mind blowing. In fact the only real complaint I could see with the book is it throws out some concepts that are a little hard to follow at times. Also has a great appearance by Adam Warlock who has become a real favorite of mine.Would definitely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the Infinity Gauntlet and Jim Starlin.
review 2: So this is a Starlin-penned cosmic crossover
... more, with Doctor Doom in a starring role and entirely narrated by Thanos. Which means pontificating super villains on every page. For most writers, it would fall completely flat. But a good writer can make this all fun, and Starlin is a good writer. Where it does fall flat is, interestingly enough, where the actual crossover scenes occur. And Akhenaten is a less than convincing villain, even with his absurdly ultimate power. It gets really fun once Thanos takes center stage, though. 3.5 stars, bumped down to three because it's really a bit of a guilty pleasure. less
