review 1: This was so close to five stars, but I felt the ending was a bit rushed. Up until then I really enjoyed this chilling illustration of the abuses of power in this alternate England. I thought Elvira was a realistic character - unconcerned with the erosion of civil rights under the fascist government until it begins to directly affects her. I really liked Carmichael, and his stoicism in the face of his grief was heart-breaking.
review 2: SO GOOD. Walton did a really excellent job of building up all the tension and all the little threats from the first two books into something really extraordinary. The only thing I could have asked for was a bit more substance to the ending. It felt rushed, but I was extremely pleased with the manner in which it was resolved.
... more I can say no more about that, on account of spoilers.A+ series, would recommend to EVERYONE and their mom. less

This one, the last, is the best in the trilogy.
