review 1: There are small kindnesses in Dead Man's Deal. They are few and far between, and come in unexpected places, but they are enough to turn small tides for wizard-cum-hero, Gage Powell. All he really wants is peace, love, and understanding. What he gets is the responsibility of the world on his shoulders. The irony is that even as he saves entire groups of people, they still view him as the enemy. What I love most was that though this is Gage's story, there are many other characters who are also fighting the good fight, and powerful beings that are rooting for the underdog. So, despite all the horrible things that are done in the quest for power, there are constant reminders that life is still worthwhile. Oh, and the nonstop action and plot twists that define all great ... moreurban fantasy help too.
review 2: Wow, sooo much going on in this book. Gage is trying to get out of his deal with the dark elf mobster while also gaining Bronx his freedom, aids Trixie in her safe return to the elves of the Summer Court by solving their fertility problems, and is reunited with his family. Along the way he meets up with the other young runaway warlocks, learns a disturbing secret of Sofie, meets Mother Nature, and is dragged back to the Ivory Towers, which results not in his execution but with his recruitment into the Guardians (the Towers' version of MIB). I loved how the relationships and characters were further developed in this novel, especially between Trixie and Gage and Gage and Gideon. And the scene with "Squall"; this really showed Gage's soft side hidden beneath his tough exterior, which got so much tougher this novel. Gage realized, to his shock, just how much he wants a normal life. I hope he survives to see "Squall"! less

a nice mix of action, romance and fantasy. I can't wait to see what Gage gets up to next!

Didn't finish. Just couldn't get into it like I did the first one, unfortunately.
