review 1: The Nothing Girl by Jodi TaylorI thoroughly enjoyed reading this book; it captivated me from the start and kept me hooked. This isn’t my usual tattooed bad boy, vamp, werewolf type book, though it had its plots, mystery, compassion, heartache (and maybe a tear) love and added sparkle and magic and humour too.We meet Jenny and see life through her eyes and also Thomas, a horse that guides and comforts her through her time of need, which only Jenny can see – a guardian angel as such. Jenny hates her life, her parents are dead and she lives with her self-important Aunt and Uncle and her pretentious Cousins Francesca and Christopher who are over bearing and seem to shut her away from the world because of her speech impediment. At 13yrs old Jenny decided to end it all unt... moreil Thomas comes to the rescue and helps her through life and keeps her company in her lonely existence, whilst the others get on with their life and protect her from the world outside. It’s not until some 15 years later that Jenny is invited by her Cousin Francesca’s fiancé ‘Daniel’ to attend a dinner party that Jenny meets Russell an old School friend and Francesca’s Ex, who broke his heart publicly and ran off with Daniel because he could offer more. Russell and Jenny get re-acquainted and despite Russell’s obvious drunken attempts to get over Francesca and the string she likes to play and tease him by, a proposal is made that Jenny accepts and will change their lives forever and the things that threaten to ruin it all.I really don’t want to give too much away of this book and hope you will take my word that this is a lovely story! It’s 15 chapters long, though they are long chapters and it’s a standalone story. There were the odd grammatical errors, though this didn’t detract from the great story line. Jodi has a lovely writing style and keeps you hooked and entertained though the pages.A recommended story and I would also love to read more from Jodi.Jodi has also written:The Chronicles of St Mary’sLittle Donkey
review 2: I adored this book, it's beautifully written and the characters are very likeable. Jenny the main character is 28 and has led a very sheltered life with her aunt and uncle, suddenly she meets Russell who she's known since school and marries him. What follows is Jenny's journey from a sheltered upbringing into the real world and learning to cope with it. The other characters in the book are lovely (well most of them...I really really would like to have jumped into the pages and punched her aunt in the face!!) and the main characters around Jenny have their own stories to tell which doesn't detract from hers. A wonderful read less
