review 1: I don't think I will continue with this series beyond this book. I read this one only because the first two books were freebies from somewhere and after reading the first volume I was still somewhat curious about what would happen next.Eventually the biggest loose thread and apparent paradox from the first book gets dealt with, but before that there is a series of somewhat disjoint episodes. I found I did not care about the main characters very much, and the way time travel is handled here is not that interesting to me.Also, unless the Jack the Ripper thing this book opened with is picked up again later, it seems to be a rather pointless and tacky shock element that adds little to the whole.
review 2: After finishing the first book in this series I went ahead a
... morend bought the second. The second novel is just as enjoyable as the first and the author brings all the various plot lines in an entertaining conclusion. I plan to continue with all 4 books in the series. There's something special about this series. I love the richly drawn characters, the narration, the action, the absurdity, snarkiness, and the humor. It's fresh and original and absolutely delightful. Since I listen to the Audible versions, I enjoy every minute spent listening to these books. The narrator Zara Ramm does an excellent job of bringing Max and these books to life. less

I didn't enjoy this book quite as much add the first book, but it was still really fantastic.
