review 1: Now I understand how a book this well thought-out got published with a title that seemed a simple working title. It appeared to me that someone forgot to carry through with the wit evidenced in the writing and come up with a decent title. Maybe publish it with a real title, and have this silly label as a sub-title?Regarding the actual story, I loved it. Time travel and dry wit historians--what could be better?Warning, this story is very British. If such mannerisms are endearing to you, then you're good to go.I wonder, however, is it the norm among nominally uptight British academic characters to be restrained (sometimes beyond the bounds of believability) and then inexplicably cut loose in some bawdy sex or angry rant? In a couple of scenes, that was the only explanation I... more could come up with.Besides those few glitches in emotional logic, I thoroughly enjoyed this time-travel story. And I'd LOVE to have my own pod.
review 2: I got this free from somewhere, along with the second book in the series. It is entertaining enough, but does the logic of time travel and paradox avoidance hold up? Maybe, if you assume that this is a case of one, unchangeable timeline where anything time travelers happen to do to disturb the past is already part of the past. (Except, what does the play have to do with all of this? Will that be explained later?) It seems no one in the book's universe has a firm grasp on the rules. Plus there seems to be a fantasy element to the time travel. (Although, like Larry Niven pointed out in his Svetz stories, all time travel is fantasy.)Why does the author insist on featherless T-Rexes and raptors?Much of the book reads like a romance novel, but there is an unexpectedly large amount of violence, somewhat in contrast to the generally light tone. less

Fun, funny, intelligent, and very British. Loved it. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.
