review 1: The word that sprang immediately to mind when I'd finished this was "breathtaking". Which is not an epithet I apply to many books.Particularly as, for about the first third of it, I was planning on never reading another word by this author. The wacky unpredictability of the St Marys team is too ridiculous, the over-detailed descriptions of how the expedition logistics are organised demonstrate poor understanding of quasi-military organisations, and the main character is sometimes just too bizarre.BUT... but... there's a truly excellent description of the fall of Troy, and from then on it all just becomes utterly strange and wonderful. I have no idea where she's going with this. But I'm looking forward to finding out!
review 2: like I said in my review on part 2... more. this one brings it all together nicely. and leaves you wanting more. ending is kind of unexpected and well written and I think there's another book on the way which is great. same compelling style and short unputdownable chapters. just to the end if this one. ....... I have since read other of jodi's books and have to say liked them all. the scifi and history elements are really good but the max-leon story is dropped in between with a great skill... so well done. less
