review 1: Reading a Joe Hill book is almost as good as taking a creative writing class. He's clearly at the top of his craft, and only getting better.Gabriel Rodriguez, too, is amazing. I find myself taking a few extra minutes to study two different panels that have shifted just the slightest bit, but there are so many shades of nuance in the new panel.Lovecraft is heating up as it cools down. The kids all had emotional arcs this time, even Kinsey, who, I think, is having a hard time having emotions. It's amazing how fear and guilt shape us.Can't wait for the next volumes, they will be purchased sooner rather than later.
review 2: Sooo good. Unlike the previous books, which focused on a single arc with one or two keys, this had a multitude of vignettes, and a LOT of keys
... more! Loved that the first chapter is partially done in the style of Bill Watterson. Loved that Tyler finally caught on to Dodge (and the origin of his nickname), but poor Bode! And it seems that we've seen the last of Sam; hopefully Rufus can continue his final redeeming works. I liked Scot and Kinsey, and Tyler and Jordan. Sad to see them end, but hopefully they come back together in the end. Don't think we've seen the last of them, at least. There were so many new keys, they weren't all included at the end! Missing were the mask key, which opened a secret closet, the thorn key, teddy bear key and acorn key (love to know the motivation for creating a key that controlled a squirrel horde). We also got to see new entries in the diaries of other Locke descendants. less
