review 1: This is the second of Johan Theorin's planned quartet of books set in Oland, a part of Sweden he knows intimately. A family from Stockholm buys an old manor house, and are in the process of restoring it when the wife is found drowned while her husband is away. Her husband and daughter are visited by her ghost, and this drives the search for the killer. Other murders, both far past and recently present, are discovered. One of the main characters of the previous book plays a prominent role in this one, too, nicely connecting the stories. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series, The Quarry.
review 2: Amazing book! Crime thrillers are not always my preferred genre but this is so much more; a very subtle ghost story that achieves near perfect atmosp
... morehere, characters that are fully realized in their relations to each other and the world around them, a plot that does not rely on wild coincidence but intelligently weaves character and circumstance together into a richly rewarding climax; and a truly touching finale that never once borders on sentimentality. I loved reading this book and I have already begun recommending it to friends and strangers alike. less

Not bad but I don't really like supernatural elements in mysteries.

Actually 4.5 - another of my cold Swedish mysteries. A good one.

Atmospheric read! Great story for a gloomy day!

2 1/2 stars. Thought the end was rushed.
