review 1: I thought this was a nice book. It is about TIffany and Hunter. Tiffany is arranged to be married to Hunter since they were young in order to end a long family feud. It started with their grandparents who were lovers. However, they ended up falling out and ended with different people. Their passion transformed into hate that passed onto future generations. Tiffany had been estranged from her father since she was young. Her mother had her own drama that involved a past suitor. Her suitor gave up on life after she broke off the engagement. In retaliation, his father arranged to have her life ruined. She was to be deprived of the love of her life just as how his son was. She took her daughter with her and gave many excuses to leave. In order to protect her sons, she arranged ... moreTiffany's marriage to start a truce. If she did not comply with her suitor's father, her husband's life would be in danger. An attempt on his life was already done, which her husband thought was the Callahans. Anyways, Tiffany posed as a servant in order to get an insight into the life she would be entering. She learned to cook and got closer to the Callahans. She did this also to avoid her father, who she mistakenly believed did not care for her. Anyways, she lived as a housekeeper. Hunter continually came on to her and she rebuffed him almost all of the time. Her identity came out and he was no longer sure of her. She put on airs to hammer home that she is not a servant. It fell apart when she cuddled the pig. Then, the drama over her mother's suitor came to a head when the sheriff arrested him during the dance. One thing that bugged me about this book was the snobbery present in city people. I didn't like that she put on formal gowns for dinner and not doing so implies barbarism. Get off it. I also didn't like how the father was treated. He really for the short end of the stick. I thought it was really poor of her to condemn their lives from preconceived notions. But overall, it was a nice book. It got a bit tedious by the end but it is a light read.
review 2: I like books with mistaken identities and this was just that. A girl has to travel across the country to meet his father for the first time and to marry his father's neighbour's son. The idea of the marriage is to end the feud between two families. But the headstrong girl is not impressed by her parents decisions and hatches a plan of her own. She pretends to be a house keeper to find out why her mother left her father. Of course her plan doesn't work as she hopes. Some ways it works even better and other ways much worse.I liked the beginning of the story. Tiffany was spoiled and headstrong and she didn't want to meet her father at all. I liked their trip to Montana but after that everything went downhill. I couldn't see this spoiled girl, who wanted to marry a New York dandy and had visited a kitchen twice in her life, washing dishes and cooking. She matured too quickly. Sure, author wanted me to believe, that she was playing a part, but it just wasn't believable. The mystery of Tiffany's parents was good but it popped up randomly and the conclusion of it was so disappointing. Why such a rush? I wanted more details. The story had wonderful secondary characters - so, that's why I give it 3 stars. less
