review 1: This book is bad.As much as it gets praise for being ,,innovative,, it`s still pretty much disappointing.I was especially excited to read it because Lindqvist`s first book ,,Let the right one in,, was amazing. When I got my hands on it I was severely disapointed it was just not interesting.I still, out of respect got through the whole thing. The whole plot sadly made no sense. There was no final logical or supernatural explanation to the zombies. This pissed me off, because in LTROI(for short) there was some kind of logical expalantion to the vampires and it made a person feel better. The plot of LTROI was finished when the one of HTU(again for short) was not.In LTROI we had all the main characters either die or get somewhat a happy ending.Meanwhile in HTU we had one main chara... morecter die and the others` life hangs in the balance as the story ,,ends,,.Now abou the characters themselves. The min character of LTROI was without doubt Oskar, while other characters were introduced they more or less had less story importance than him. They were all very well thought out and all were relatable and interesting.Meanwhile in HTU all the main characters were cheesy and there was no central character. They all had lost a relative and all want him/her back. They get a zombified version of him/her,but instead of you know realizing he/she`s lost forever and go on with their lives they take care of barely animate disfigured corpses. No one from the main cast is relatable. Now for the final part of my review:the ,,mosters,, of each book, what presence they give off and how intersting they are.LTROI takes on vampires which before this book were pretty boring ,,monsters,, and turned them into sufferers of a rare disease that causes vampire-like bodily functions and behavior.Other than that the vampires in LTROI are just about as monstrous as the people they were before they were infected. The whole ,,vampire,, thing was handled very well in LTROI.Meanwhile zombies didn`t need an update from Lindqvist, but they got it anyways. When before zombies were horrifiyng monsters feeding on the flesh of the living, now in HTU the zombies are brainless walking corpses, minus the whole ,,kill the living and eat them,, thing and also for some sadly unexplained reason have powers enabling the living around them to be telepaths.Their motives, origin and phusiology are never clearly explained. That`s all I have to say about this, sadly horrible book from the author of a really good one before it.
review 2: If you're looking for a genuinely unique take on zombies and you like literary fiction, this is the book to read. I like my horror a little scarier, although I appreciated the thoughtfulness and originality, and the writing is close enough to flawless. The characters are very real and easy to care about, with the exception of some minor roles filled by religious fanatics. I did leave the story confused about what had set the events in motion, what had in fact happened. But that could be me losing patience with literary fiction in general. less

A great read, a great author. A different twist on the zombie theme, more human, less apocalyptic.

Osäker om intressant och spännande eller seg och obekväm.
