review 1: I think I need to stop reading books set in other countries. No wait even a different setting would not have made a difference. I finished this book only because I have to finish I once I stat reading. I kept waiting for it to get better but that never happened. there was a brief moment in the beginning when it looked like ti might be an exciting read then it went completel boring again. he backstories of the characters were so long and drawn out that by the time the 2 characters meet up I was ready for the book to be over not to start another act. the only good part about this book was that when the 12 other people came into play the author did not feel it necessary to do a background on each of them. I can only imagine how many more boring pages would have been included ... moreif he had. Then there was the ending. I do not like open ended books. I want a closure. I need to know the story ahd officially come to an end or that there will be sequel. this book gave neither option. it hints at an ending but it leaves so many questions as to why that the book doesn't really do anything at all.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book. This is the second one I read from this author and he always throws you into some interesting situations. One thing I have to admit is this book was unpredictable a lot of the time. What I thought was going to happen was not the way it went. I think John Ajvide Lindqvist wants to surprise the reader and leave the reader with endings that are unexpected. Some readers really enjoy that, others always want an ending that is according to what they would like. Overall, a great job and I will keep reading more of this author. less
