review 1: Det är otroligt vad duktig John Ajvide är på att dels sätta fingret på det helt vardagliga, och samtidigt på att göra det absurda vardagligt. Hans karaktärer tar sig för väldigt märkliga grejer, men han får det på något sätt att verka normalt, eller iallafall... förklarligt. Förståeligt. Han har också ett fenomenalt sätt att göra småsaker, och vanliga saker väldigt obehagliga. Som glassgubben i Människohamn. Och som den lilla, vackra flickan i Lilla stjärna. Genom att ta bort vanliga barns attribut och med vissa små beskrivningar antyda att hon inte är som alla andra gör han henne mer obehaglig än om han skulle basunera ut ett Samara i The Ring-liknande utseende och beteende. Det är otroligt skickligt. Läs!
review 2: Little Star i... mores far from perfect, but it's very creative in many ways, timely, and, in spite of its self sometimes, absorbing. Some of the issues it examines, with more or less insight and success, include loneliness, alienation, the need to fit in, the need for attention and its effects, predator/prey behavior in the human, the nature-versus-nurture arguments regarding violence and psychopathy, and the nature of the murderous impulse itself. It handles much of this deftly and from a very contemporary viewpoint.As others point out, it bogs down at points, as a thriller, and hasn't much sustained suspense (beyond some individual scenes); After the first chapter or two, you know what's going to happen, even if you don't know how it's going to happen. And while I don't have any problem with graphic violence when it's used well, Lindquist employs it here in a leaden, pointlessly pornographic way that just drags the novel down into the outright cheap horror of a splatter film, where it doesn't belong.It's a three-star novel that earns an extra star for originality and the way it examines some of first-world society's more compelling issues. less
