review 1: It's been a while since I've read past 1:00am because I had to know what was going to happen next. This odd little book reminded me how wonderful it is to fear for your character enough that you can't leave them alone. (A perfect Halloween read, by the way.)Not a heavy read - Florence's way of speaking becomes annoying by page 5 - but fun, fun, fun! Not like the Flavia de Luce stories at all, but for the young girl as protagonist - which turns out to be a very compelling POV. I recommend for those who enjoy a little chill up the spine now and again.
review 2: Fabulously gothic! I'm not sure that it's quite as chilling as reviewed on the cover but it was wonderfully atmospheric and did crack quite a pace, I inhaled it in 2 nights. Great storytelling and characte
... morerisation and I loved Florence's twisty use of language which was by turns quite beautiful - but unfortunately could also be a bit irritating, it wasn't necessary to do this with absolutely everything she says, it's more powerful and engaging when pared back. This was ultimately what led me to give it 3 starts rather than 4. Still very enjoyable. less

Una storia di misteri e (forse) fantasmi, che finisce senza spiegarsi.
