review 1: Lame concept (here are wizards, just like that Harry Potter!) and poor cover art, yet I picked this up because of the roster of incredible authors involved. The excellent authors bring excellence for the most part, though many stories are not unique to this collection. However the score drops because of the spelling mistakes sprinkled throughout the book. They give a sense that the editor did not care very much about this project. All errors are the type to pass a spell check program but be obvious to a reader, eg. cat instead of cart or she instead of he.
review 2: I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It is hard to rate an anthology, but I was overall pretty pleased with most of the stories. My favorites in particular were: In the Lost Lands by Georg... moree R.R. Martin, The Secret of Calling Rabbits by Wendy N. Wagner, The Wizards of Perfil by Kelly Link, Mommy Issues of the Dead by T. A. Pratt, and The Word of Unbinding by Ursula K. Le Guin. There were several misses as well and a couple I didn’t finish, but overall the quality was good. I did really enjoy the fact that there was a lot of variety in the worlds portrayed with something for just about everyone. less
