review 1: Not my cup of tea this book. Although I found it an interesting period to read about the years after WW2. I did not care for Troy nor the other characters really. The brief description of Auschwitz did not help either. I had trouble understanding half of the novel so that made me feel stupid. I finished it just to prove I was not. ... morerld. The received pronunciation, extra servants, and regimental ties are disappearing, but they are not disappearing enough. In the midst of this dispassionate depiction of that world, Freddy Troy tries to find the murderer of a nobody in the subway who turns out to be someone to Russian intelligence.
