review 1: I hesitated before starting this series. I figured zombies were beneath Ringo, a waste of his time and mine. I'm glad I didn't skip this one, because he's hitting EVERYTHING that I like in his writing, and minimizing the stuff that wrecks the mood. As always, he's big on action and openly celebrates the warrior spirit. But where the Posleen and Darhel as enemies added a deep, convoluted element of political intrigue, the Infected are just hostile meat bags. Ringo's work never requires a deep brain sweat to follow, but there's something about an uncomplicated villain that is a refreshing break. And as a bonus, the pedo undercurrent that wrecks the otherwise awesome Kildar series is severely muted here. So, that's two big distractions gone, allowing the reader to revel i... moren the glorious heroics of a band of tough-as-nails survivors fighting against impossible odds. It's a really good time.
review 2: Okay I'm going to assume that you read the previous book in the series under a graveyard sky if not you should definitely definitely read it first this book is a direct continuation of the story and you will be completely lost if you try and jump in on the second book. This has everything that made the first book worthwhile reading. Fun and exciting characters, intelligent planning, random historical facts and tidbits and most importantly a well thought out and as rational as it can be zombie Apocalypse. And just continues to raise the bar. After reading the first book I immediately jumped into this one. depth is added to a vast majority of the characters previously introduced in the series and new characters are being added almost constantly, all of whom are rather eclectic bunch of people you would expect to be pulling off of boats in a zombie apocalypse. The only real problem I had with this book was that Stacey the mother of the Smith family which contains all of the main characters seems to kind of just disappeared into thin air barely ever she mentioned in the story. I hope in the next book she gets a little more screen time along with her daughter Sophie who although not nearly as badass as her little sister faith is my favorite character and deserves a whole book of her own simply on that point(why yes I am a little egocentric however ever did you guess) and also because she has one of the most developed and interesting cruise in the book all of whom I believe are going to be very interesting to watch in upcoming books especially Olga I just love her she's going to be a supermodel addition of Faith less
