review 1: Within the historical backdrop of the sinking of the hospital ship, Benevolence, in the South Pacific, the author tells a story of intrigue, revenge, love, and survival. Annie, an American nurse, and Akira, a wounded Japanese soldier, discover that there is still poetry and beauty in the midst of war and treachery on their small island. The remaining castaways from a bond fighting to survive the actions of a traitor, the tropical weather, and a Japanese attack. This is a well-written and captivating story. I'm looking forward to other works by this author.
review 2: This book was for me a wonderful read. I have always loved John Shors stories and this one really drew me in. The story takes place on a small deserted Island in the South Pacific, where 9 survi
... morevors (6 men, and 3 women) managed to swim ashore. The survivors were from a WWII hospital ship Benevolence, which had been split in two by a Japanese torpedo. The author has a wonderful way of describing the look and feel of their surroundings, and the wonderful personalities of the diverse group of people, which really drew me into the story. This book has a bit of everything, Love , betrayal, Humor, revelations. It describes so many emotions that you become one with the characters. Beautifully written. less
