review 1: Too much narrative for my liking. And now, after 100 pgs, I'm experiencing an emotional connection play out between the two Americans that is painful. Bad writing! I am consistantly reminded as I read on of exactly how presumptuous the narrator can be, with notions that only seem to put distance between myself and the bits of the story that keep me reading- snapshots of the daily workings of people suffering and their inside and their outside life, however incomplete the author has portrayed them. And yet I am satisfified well enough with my imagination to fill in the vacuous segments.I am enjoying some parts here and there, but if you have something else to read I recommend that instead....
review 2: I adore John Shors and how he can write with such a se
... morense of "place". I can truly picture myself anywhere he writes. I enjoyed the story so much, just felt that the characters were predictable and the plot not his best. With all that said, one could tell that Shors was passionate about his subject. He wants the world to see what he saw and feel what he feels. I am always game for another Shor's tale. less

Not bad read, well written even if a bit predictable. Enjoyed it none the less.
