review 1: I enjoyed this book. I picked it out because I don't know much about Vietnam. The book centers around Iris and Noah who move to Vietnam to start a center for orphan children. Iris's father was a soldier in Vietnam and suffered from PTSD. Noah was a soldier in Iraq and is suffering from his own PTSD. Their stories are good, but I really enjoyed the stories of the chidren whom they meet. It wasn't a particularly gripping book and much of the story lines were predictable, but I still learned a lot and enjoyed it.
review 2: I finished this novel with tears in my eyes as I (a) realised that some of the proceeds of sales will be donated to Blue Dragon Children's Foundation and (b) found Michael Brosowski's name in the credits. The characters, the centre and Ho ... moreChi Minh City truly lived on every page and I was transported to a deeper understanding of the lives of the children who Blue Dragon rescue. I wept inconsolably for Tam and Qui - feeling so very blessed for the life of my littlest nieceling and the medical resources she was freely able to access. Deeply touching on many levels, this novel is one that I feel compelled to ask anyone who loves me dearly to read. less
