review 1: I think I've had enough. Once again, there's a clever murder mystery, but it's hidden under hundreds of pages of boring. Dave Gurney is mostly an annoying character, in an annoying setting. I don't see much development here, Verdon keeps repeating the same elements. The plot is pretty good, that I admit, and the ending made it worthwhile to read the book. However, I'm pretty sure that once the next Dave Gurney novel comes out, I'm going to pass.
review 2: This is my favorite kind of book, the retired cop who still kicks ass appeals to me. This is the first book I have read by Dave Gurney, it started off strong and I was enjoying it immensely. However....I believe it was to long and to drawn out. I'm ashamed to admit but I skim read probably the last 100 pages..... more..But with that being said, I will be picking up his other books and giving it another go. less
