review 1: If you like Dan Brown's stuff the odds are that you'll probably enjoy this. For my part far too much was trying to be stuffed in: US army cover-up, Catholic Church cover-up, cyber-hackers, corrupt police, people trafficking, war crimes. The main female protagonist left me cold. Within the blink of an eye she's conducting an illicit relationship with her married boss, which comes across as cliche and is frankly boring. Shan't be reading further in this series.
review 2: A modern-day crime-thriller set in Venice, written by British author Jonathan Holt, is the first novel of a planned trilogy. It starts with a body of a priest found with two bullets to the back of the head. As he is pulled from the water, the police soon realize it is a woman's body dressed as
... morea priest, thus the "abomination" of the title. From there, the evidence seems to involve nearly everyone that remotely could be involved, namely, human trafficking, the mafia, the Catholic Church, the U.S. military, the CIA, even the war in Bosnia. Concurrent investigations by the carabinieri and the nearby U.S. military try to narrow the list of suspects. Holt's characters are engaging, and as his book progresses, the complex plot comes into focus, as what really happened is revealed. There are a lot of twists and turns along the way, as well as surprises, and a satisfying conclusion. Love the setting, enjoyed the book. less

I'll read the series. Fast-paced, short attention span reading.
