Hello! I decided I’d take my first proper weekend out of university for my winter break to write up a little post with a life update to discuss how I found my first semester of university, how my reading is going and just a few general points.
Right so, I survived my first semester of university. I’m not going to go into the deep personal details but I’ve had bad days, good days and okay days. I’m quite surprised that I’ve been studying English for eleven weeks and I haven’t been bored sat in an English literature seminar yet. It genuinely seems that books and reading are the things which keep my attention. Obviously there have been books which I haven’t enjoyed but there’s also books which genuinely surprised me and I made a blog post featuring those books here. So yes, university so far has been busy and tiring but I’m enjoying it.
However, because of university being so busy, my own reading for leisure has slowed down. If I find a week in which I am significantly less busy (less reading to do, not as many essays to write) I try and pick up a short book – usually a YA novel. For example, a few weeks ago, I picked up Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli and very quickly read my way through it. It’s always good to take a break from some of the heavier reading I have to do. I keep a little collection of books on my shelves in case I want to pick something up when I find myself with little to do in the morning.
Now, I’m just over a week through my three-week break from uni and I took the opportunity this week to just relax and I only managed to read one book – The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin and I don’t know whether I liked it enough to finish the trilogy. It was definitely very intriguing but I wrote a mini-review on my bookstagram outlining why I didn’t particularly like the book but a little part of me does want to finish the trilogy – I’d like to give the entire series a chance.
Other than that, I’ve had to get back to university reading and so I began listening to an audiobook for The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins and at some point I need to start Money by Martin Amis as well. I have a feeling that I will be receiving quite a few books at Christmas so I hope I have the chance to read some more of those before I move back to university – if not, I’ll just take them back to university with me.
That about wraps this up for this week however, over the next few weeks expect a few blog posts (of better quality than the ones you have received over the last few weeks whilst I’ve been at uni) – and maybe expect two per week for a couple of weeks. I would also like to wish everyone a happy holidays.
