review 1: I got this sci-fi book as a freebie of Amazon. Omega Rising was a mediocre sci-fi story that has a mediocre set of characters, mediocre plot and mediocre writing. I felt no connection to any of the characters, especially the main character, Jason. I just didn't care too much about him or what happened. The other characters were interesting because they were aliens and they had a bit more personality than Jason, but not much. It took almost a third of the book for it to get interesting, not a whole lot happens during that one third. Too much time was spent with Jason in awe of the fact that aliens exist and he was traveling through space in a spaceship. It was very boring and not exciting at all, since I was reading about a character I didn't care about. The writing... more was not that great, the descriptions were very basic if there was a description at all. There were a few editing and grammatical errors but nothing that was extremely distracting from the story. I think that the author has potential to write a great story and maybe with some editing and guidance, the book could be much better. Overall, 2.5 stars out of 5, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. I finished the book, but towards the end, I found myself just wanting to be done and reading something else. I know there are other books in this series but I won't be continuing.
review 2: I liked this book too much because it brings to life most children's dream of stumble upon an alien ship and discover the universe on it.The only downside of this book, that almost make me give it four stars, is the fact that a "person" with X hierarchy/access level in a system can grant hierarchies/access levels higher than it's own.I dislike this a lot because this is a very important thing through all the story. But at the end is a great book :) less

A fairly quick story that follows one human as he joins the star-fairing races of the galaxy.
