review 1: This novel has become one of my favorites in the Paranormal MM Romance world. J.R. has done a great job of building the characters into two intense gay men(werewolves) who have a rocky start involving bigotry and battling the past. Seth was born a special werewolf with a gift of healing, but a past that he can't seem to get away from. He comes to Wyoming as a vet hoping to start a new life, hidden from the past. Kasey, who is Native American Werewolf, that is the Sheriff of the small town as well as destined to be the next Alpha among his pack), comes into Seth's life. At first Kasey doesn't like Seth because he's white and feels white people don't know how to take care of animals until Seth proves him wrong. Then Kasey realizes that Seth is his life mate. Seth doesn't beli... moreeve it until his past catches up with him. Seth calls his best friend in which adds a interesting mystery to the story because he seems to be a focal point of Seth's past. Then everything starts going wrong and Seth and Kasey's relationship seems to be tested, but in the long run gets stronger. The story just brings you into the lives of these men. It's full of drama, excitement, love, and Hot Sex. A Must Read
review 2: I had two big issues with this book. First: no lube. None at all. Insanity. Second, this book was about the issue of racism, which initially excited me. Yes, Kasey was initially quite racist, but I was looking forward to watching him wrestle with that issue. Unfortunately, he never really did wrestle with it. His issues were swept under the rug and magically disappeared with wolf-magic. Worse, the author follows that up by identifying Kasey as some variant of "the big Cheyenne" dozens and dozens of times over the course of the book. I did a search on my kindle for "Cheyenne" and eventually lost count. Kasey was turned into somewhat of a stereotype, something that disturbed me and really took away from what I initially thought was an anti-racism theme in the book. I can't imagine why the author continually referred to Kasey that way (big Cheyenne, tall Cheyenne, etc) as it certainly didn't seem necessary as a way to describe him. Even if it was, it would have been too repetitive. Unfortunately, my gut kept telling me that the character was being treated in a racist way. It left a very negative taste in my mouth. less
