review 1: A rhyming brilliantly written picture book of a farm full of animals that in turn make noises according to how each naturally sounds. There is one animal the ladybird that is quiet but it hears and sees what is going on. One day two man with a van come to the farm with a plan to steal the cow. The ladybird sees them and hears how they plan to steal the cow by following the sounds of the animal in a certain direction making sure they don’t work up the dog as they approach the cow. She tells the other animals and hatches a plan whereby the animals will copy the sound of a different animal so that this will fool the man and trick them to unknowingly follow a different route that will not lead them to the cow. As they approach the animals the animals put their plan into act... moreion and the man think they are following their devised route to the cow but instead it leads them to the pond where they fall into and are caught by the police.This picture book is suitable for the age group 3-7 and the children especially the younger ones will enjoy it being read to them. They could also learn how each animal sounds by pretending to be that animal and then make that animal’s sound and this could be done in the form of a game or play.
review 2: What's not to love about Julia Donaldson? Her rhymed stories are a delight to read aloud and are so well done that little ones can chime in easily with "quack said the_____, and woof said the _____." I barely finish reading one of Donaldson's books to our two year old, when I hear, "again, please." Love, love, love Donaldson and her illustrator, Axel Scheffler! This book would also make an excellent introduction to maps, mapping skills, and geography. Children could map their bedrooms, their homes, their yards or their neighborhoods. less
