review 1: I don't know how to rank this book. It was beautifully written and the characters fully developed but I hated, loathed, wanted to punch two out of the four main protagonists. My book club liked Percy. I found him pompous, pretentious and off-putting while wielding his verbal acuity as a weapon. But to have such a visceral reaction to an imaginary person says worlds about the writing. Decide for yourself whether you like Percy and the other men.
review 2: So many characters; so many contemporary issues. I loved how it all fit together. 70-year old Percy, his new girlfriend, his two daughters, his grandson, his grandson's college roommate, his neighbor's gardener, the gay preschool teacher, etc... Dating, divorce, custody, cancer, gay marriage, environmental a
... morectivism, immigration laws, nosy neighbors, etc... Put them all in a pot, stir in humor and great character development. Critics of the book say it tried to cover too much ground. But I personally know people dealing with all these issues (except environmental terrorists- I don't know any terrorists). I didn't think it was overdone. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next, I really grew to like the characters and didn't want it to end! Hoping for a sequel! less

Loved the first sentence. "Why than you. I'm getting in shape to die."
