review 1: I received this book, for review, from Goodreads as part of their first-reads program. Julianne MacLean is a USA author of historical romances. She is a three-time RITA finalist, and has won numerous awards, including the Booksellers' Best Award, among others. Julianne lives in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. She is a dedicated member of Romance Writers of Atlantic Canada. This book is sixth in series but each book does work as a standalone novel. Note: kindle edition lists this series in religion but as a Christian believer, I must caution those looking for a completely "clean" read due to language. There are references to prayer under difficult circumstances but not a relationship with God as Christians define it. There is also a small but underlying thread of supe... morernatural "intuition". So read it with caution for the delightful romantic adventure it is. I did enjoy the book a lot. In reading romance, I do look for a clean read and this was, as such. There was only adventurous violence needed to tell the story. Carla and Seth Matthews are separated with a daughter Kaleigh. Seth is an outdoor adventurer. Carla thought he would settle down once married with a child on the way but this was not to be the case. Seth was forever taking off on his alpine climbing adventures leaving Carla with Kaleigh to raise her and care for their welfare. Seth's plane has gone down on a trip and Carla is unsure if he is alive or not. She is stunned when, after a year missing, a man has been found, half-dead, floating on an iceberg in the middle of the North Atlantic. What follows is a journey into the mind of the men involved in the crash, Carla as she lives out her single status and has begun to date again, and Kaleigh, a fatherless daughter who has had to grow up a little too fast. I did enjoy this book and it was a quick read. I know, you hear a "but" coming...some loose ends were not fully tied up for me. I was left dangling in a few areas but due to the way the book was written expected to follow the thread on but it wasn't quite there. Oh, it was in theory but I could have used a little bit more explanation. I do have another of her books on my kindle, the first in series, so I will be reading it sooner rather than later. I hope to enjoy it as much or more than this one. I recommend this to romance readers who like a fairly clean read. As I read and review from the Christian aspect, don't expect much from this book on prayer, relying on God in difficult circumstances as it's just not there.
review 2: Goodreads Firstreads Thank you Julianne for the autographed copy of The Color of Love. The book itself was something I was not anticipating at all. It wasn't a happy sappy type of love story I'm used to seeing by this author, there was real angst and plenty of heartache to be found in the journey. I'm even more surprised by the ending because its not necessarily what you find in a romance novel but in one of those tv movies that leave you tossing tissues at the television screen. Both the story and the characters were done so differently that it caught me by surprise to find that with as many questions and conflicting interests at the heart of it, I couldn't begin to guess just how it was going to end. Still I was surprised by it and also I liked it. Not what I was expecting for it but depending on the kind of heart you have I suppose readers will have to see for themselves. less

The beginning was interesting, but the story fizzled. The characters were generally one dimensional.
