review 1: What an amazing book! I think Armani is a character that any preteen will be able to relate to - I can remember being 10, and thinking that my birthday party was the most important thing in the universe. Armani, however, felt terribly guilty for unknowingly putting her family in danger, as her birthday party was supposed to happen at the same time Katrina was projected to make landfall. The author does such a great job with describing the scenes, it felt like I was there. I was surprised to learn that this is her first book!
review 2: 9-year old Armani Curtis is a young girl growing up in New Orleans. She spends her days taking care of her younger siblings, fighting with her older brother, and rocking on the front porch swing with her Memaw. Nothing is mor
... moree important to Armani than her family and her quickly approaching tenth birthday. When her birthday celebration gets hijacked by hurricane Katrina, Armani must try to keep her family together in uncertain circumstances. The storm will test Armani's ideas about the bonds of friendship, family, and love. less
