A Haunted Home Renovation Mystery
review 1: The one thing that a mystery should not be is tedious. I began skipping pages about two- thirds of the way, and didn't miss anything significant The modern mystery was uninteresting, and the historical one, while much more intriguing, was also patently obvious from the beginning. Any contractor who missed the blatant clues should have her license revoked. As with Blackwell's other works, there is an obsession with detail and annoying repetition.
review 2: This genre of mystery doesn't take intense concentration to comprehend like the works of Umberto Eco and those of his ilk. That's why I like this series. The plotlines are simple and sometimes predictable, but still good stories. This book fell from the mark. I really wasn't interested in what was going on wit
... moreh the main story, the death of the owner of a great Victorian house who seems to have left it to a few different people. I was more interested in the rivalry between Owen"Evil" Campbell and his neighbors, the Bowles family. The cause of death of the Bowles family was an "oh that's what happened" moment. Not exactly a cliffhanger. Blackwell can spin a good yarn, but this one was fluff for me (sorry for the bad pun attempt). less
