review 1: it wasn't bad. Really wasn't. But it was not fun either. It had it's fun parts, sure, but all in all it was just a little to tidy, a little to boring and predictable. The MC was ok but not so fun I fell in love with her. An ok read, fine to pass the time but not any I'll be throwing my kid under the bus the get the sequel. Ok, I don't usually throw the kid under the bus for a new book, but if I would it wouldn't be for this series.
review 2: What a pleasant read! Blackwell's writing reminds me of Charlaine Harris' ability to engage the reader in the daily activities of the characters' lives while telling an interesting story. This was a fun book to read and the peek into spell casting and other witch activities was just enough; sometimes authors can get carried... more away and spend too much time on setup and execution of magic. I am looking forward to the next book. less
