review 1: The Purity of Vengeance, the 4th book in the Dept. Q series, continues with another cold case in which Carl Morck and his assistants Assad and Rose are hoping to solve. As in the previous novels, very dark storylines with horrifying crimes are made bearable by the wonderful characters and their comical banter. Especially the mysterious Assad who is turning out to be one of my all-time favorite characters.
review 2: I was impatient with this Department Q, the fourth in a favorite series. The first half was slow, seemed too familiar and lacked the usual humor of the interplay between Carl, Assad and Rose. The pace picked up in the second half and the story became more engaging. Perhaps a tad too long at 14 hours of listening (500 pages). Not my favorite Departmen... moret Q, but I still love this series and look forward to The Marco Effect. less
