review 1: i enjoy the quirky characters in Dept Q. Morck's anxiety increases this outing with changes in the police department leadership. Clues were given about the background of Assad, his Arab colleague. In addition to the murder/cold case/missing person mystery, Adler-Olsen creates a layered character in Marco Jameson, a young gypsy (or is he?), in the country illegally who wants to escape the virtual slavery he is in and to create a life for himself. He has to find a way to get together with the authorities but he fears them because he is sure he will be deported. The story about bank corruption and illegal immigration is familiar.

My least favorite of the Department Q books so far. Just too many stories going on.
