review 1: Jack Dandy, prince of the London underworld and bastard son of an aristocrat, agrees to transport a mysterious box for a wealthy man of leisure, no questions asked. Two thousand pounds sounds like a lot of money for an easy drop-off at the Picadilly station. But when Jack and his flunkies are hunted down by killer automatons and humans, Jack must see what's in the long, slender box. It's a girl. At least, it's partly a girl. She has the metal skeleton of an automaton, but flesh appears to be growing over the bones. With a soft "Help me," she chills Jack. Jack feels his job is finished, and leaves her in the station. But guilt overcomes him, and by the time he goes to retrieve the box, it is gone.I haven't read the rest of the series, but I am looking forward to it.... more Jack Dandy sounds like an interesting character, and I want to see how this discovery plays out!
review 2: I was glad to see this enhancement book on the series. It humanized Jack. Jack is a character that may seem like a straight forward simple character, but as I had suspected he is more complex than he would ever want you to know because in his own words he likes when people underestimate him, they let their guard down. I like Jack and I was glad to see a little more of his personality. I am looking forward to the next book. less

The new trend of short stories as series teasers is great! Loved this short offering from Cross.
