review 1: Despite the other negative reviews, I actually thought this book was quite good. I was a little iffy towards Finley at first, because of the whole two-personality problem, but when everything was explained I found that I actually really liked her. I adored Griffin, as well as the other assorted characters, mostly because they all had actual backbones and didn't let anyone throw them around (figuratively, at least). I wasn't Jack Dandy's biggest fan; I just didn't really like his character. It was slightly predictable, but there were a few plot twists here and there that made it better. I actually had a very hard time putting it down. Overall, a very good book. Looking forward to reading the next one.
review 2: ‘The Girl In The Steel Corset’ by Kady Cross i
... mores a very good mystery. This book is the first of The Steampunk Chronicles. Being the first book, Cross sets up her story in the nineteenth century and adds characters with interesting abilities. The main character, Finley Jane, has this darkness inside of her that she cannot control. Griffin King, the duke, has a secret connection to the Aether, a world that holds information about the living, and the spirits of the dead. Griffin lives with a few other characters, Emily, Sam, and Jasper. Together, these five people try to uncover a nasty secret about one of the most secretive villains. I saw this book on display at the library and thought that I would enjoy it because it was a mystery and it was part of a series. One of the major themes of this book is that friendship always lasts and can always be repaired. A second theme is teamwork can accomplish many things. The third theme of this book is that people may not be who you think that they are. I thought that this book would be about something totally different, but I liked the way that she wrote it and put her thoughts on the page. I originally thought that this book would be about a girl that gets a steel corset that is in some way magical and uses it to help others. This book is written in a way that wraps you up in it and you lose track of time when you read it. I liked the style in which it is written, old English and very proper. ‘The Girl In The Steel Corset’ was a book that was different from other books I have read because most mystery books have a few main characters and almost all of the characters in her book were a piece of the main puzzle; I liked that she did that. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a fantasy mystery that includes some real characters, such as Queen Victoria. All in all, I think that Kady Cross’ book was very entertaining and I cannot wait to read the next one. less
